ISSEI: Portraits Of The First-Generation Japanese New Yorkers

ISSEI presents portraits and life stories of first-generation Japanese immigrants in New York, photographed by Hiroyuki “Tora” Inoue around 1980. Through their faces, memories, and voices, the exhibit preserves the experiences of ordinary people who lived through migration, work, war, family, aging, and community life. Together, these stories invite us to remember and reconsider the legacy of Issei New Yorkers.
