As part of the Japanese American Association of New York’s 100th Anniversary in 2007, an Oral History Committee was formed to document the personal stories of long-standing members of the Japanese and Japanese American community in New York. The project resulted in a series of interviews conducted in both Japanese and English, capturing the voices and memories of over 40 individuals
The interviews were conducted by Michiyo Noda (Japanese) and Julie Azuma (English), with photography by Stann Nakazono, who served as the primary photographer. This collection provides a valuable portrait of the community’s diversity, resilience, and contributions across generations.
