Eitaro Ishigaki, Nuns and Flappers, c. 1925 (Salons of America, Fall 1925)

A young girl, known as a flapper at the time, is shown
with a bob haircut and wearing a short skirt and
stockings. One of the nuns passing next to her looks
back as if to say something as she passes. The girl
symbolizes the glamorous modern culture of the
1920s, while the nun is trapped in the tradition,
representing the blend of both old and new cultures of
the time.
