Eitaro Ishigaki, A Musical Band Out of Work (Ferry Bout Troubadour, Unemployment Band), 1928 (Independent Artists Exhibition, 1928)

In the late 1920s, the film industry evolved from silent
films to talkies, in which sound plays along with the
images. With this change, the musicians who used to
play along with films in theaters lost their jobs. This film
depicts these musicians leaving for the city in search of
work. The development of industrial technology also
meant that what had previously been routine became
obsolete.
