Eitaro Ishigaki produced paintings in the 1920s which commonly addressed the tensions between the modernization of society and old cultural expressions that were dying out, as well as the social contradictions that arose with the changing times. His works from the second half of the 1920s also reveal the artist’s liberal philosophy.
