On June 26, 1913 Japan Society hosted a luncheon at the Hotel Astor with a number of notable figures from the U.S. and Japan. Guests of honor included: Hamilton Wright Mabie, essayist, editor, critic, and lecturer; David Starr Jordan, founding President of Stanford University; Dr. Joichi Soyeda, lawyer and economist representing the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce; Lindsay Russell, President of Japan Society; Tadao Kamiya, Chief Secretary of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce; Kiujiro Okazaki, member of Japanese Parliament; and Reitaro Ichinomiya, New York agent of the Yokohama Specie Bank.
