From its inception, the Society of Independent Artists organized its exhibitions alphabetically by artist name, yet in their 1925 exhibition they categorized it according to the techniques represented in the works, including Abstractionism, Semi-Abstractionism, and Realism. In 1925, one-fifth of the works exhibited that year were abstract, and among them, Japanese artists’ works were the focus of attention.
