The paper, dated January 1, 2020, notes that 2020 is the 160th anniversary of the first Japanese diplomatic mission by the Tokugawa Shogunate in 1860. The paper includes New Year messages from the leaders of Japanese community: H.E. Mr. SUGIYAMA Shinsuke, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the US; H.E. Mr. ISHIKANE Kimihiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative of Japan to the UN; H.E. Mr. YAMANOUCHI Kanji, Ambassador and Consul-General of Japan in NY; Dr. Joshua W. Walker, President & CEO of Japan Society; Mr. YOSHIMORI Katsurao, President of Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) of NY; Ms. Susan Onuma, President of the Japanese American Association(JAA) in NY; Mr. NAKAJIMA Masaki, President of the Nippon Club; Mr. ISE Naohito, Executive Director of the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO). The December 19, 2020 copy of the paper reports the establishment of “the Japan History Council of New York.” It reports that the council’s aim is to collect, preserve and disseminate historically significant material to the world; pass it on to future generations; and establish a Japanese History Museum in New York in the future.
